Changes have been introduced to trade marks and the trade mark application process
From October 1st 2008 new rules have changed the opposition period in a trade mark application from a fixed three-month period to two months, with a free extension to three months on request by a party considering opposition.
Also the "cooling-off" period after opposition has been intimated has been reduced from 12 months to an initial period of nine months. It can be extended to 18 months if both parties request it and make certain statements.
The Registrar has been given wider powers and more flexibility in certain situations
